History

Lack of railway connection with Moscow allowed Tarusa to avoid industrialization and preserve unique landscapes.
Today Tarusa is an architectural and natural reserve

The confluence of the Tarusa and Oka rivers, active topography with ravines are important landscape elements of the city

Picturesque landscapes and isolation from Moscow made Tarusa also a “cultural” reserve

The city is “divided” into old and new parts. Kurgan microdistrict is a new neighborhood (70s of the 20th c.) in the southwest of the city

Tarusa is remarkable for the architectural monuments of the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as houses where great poets, writers, artists lived

Only in the Kurgan micro-neighborhood of the 70s the building is medium-rise.

Due to its uniquely preserved appearance - most of the buildings are one-storied, built in the 19th 19th century - the city has the status of a natural and architectural reserve.

Anatoly Vinogradov, Marina and Anastasia Tsvetaeva, Boris Pilniak, Ivan Kasatkin, Konstantin Paustovsky, Nikolai Zabolotsky, Nikolai Bogdanov, Lev Krivenko, Yuri Kazakov, Sergei Krutilin, Alexei Shemetov, Sergei Mikheenkov, Anatoly Salutsky lived here. Leonid Borodin, Bulat Okudzhava, Yuri Vlasov, Valentin Volkov and many others were frequent visitors.

In the early 1970s, the city became a favorite haunt of dissidents. The tradition of the 101st kilometer also continued. Joseph Brodsky lived here while waiting for a visa to leave the USSR; Alexander Ginzburg, the author of the sensational samizdat collection White Pages, and Solzhenitsyn visited the town; and Svyatoslav Richter built a dacha here.

The town attracted many cultural figures looking for a quiet, semi-rural life. In the 1890s, a mass of landscape painters poured into the town for the unusual picturesqueness of its streets and neighborhoods. The first wave of intellectuals who came to Tarusa included the Polenovs, Tsvetaevs, Borisov-Musatov, Vatagin, and Vinogradovs.

Since the end of the XIX century, thanks to its scenic beauty, Tarusa became a popular vacation spot. In the beginning of the XX century, as they say, with the easy hand of artists Vasily Polenov and V. A. Vatagin it was called “Russian Barbizon”. A. Vatagin nicknamed it “the Russian Barbizon”.

Within the city the city is connected by the main road - Lenina St., however, it should be noted that practically the whole city has pedestrian connectivity within 30 minutes. The main points selected for favoring are within walking distance for most of the city.

The existing public transport routes provide intercity transport communication with the following cities: Moscow, Kaluga, Nekrasovo, Voznesenye, Alekino, Baryatino, Kremenki, Serpukhov, Protvino.

The presence of leisure infrastructure (cafes, restaurants, museums, etc.) is not the only characteristic for identifying socially attractive areas. A marker for identifying such places is a specific “plume” of activity of citizens in social networks (you will not take a picture of a place if there is a threat to your safety at that moment). Thus, the assessment of social network users' activity in the spatial dimension of the city allows us to identify socially attractive and socially unattractive places.
To determine the activity of urban communities, we introduce the variable "social attractiveness. Socially attractive places are first of all characterized as safe places that have some specific symbolic status for the citizens.
The most popular urban locations are concentrated in the city center, but special attention should be paid to less concentrated locations, where photoactivity is concentrated not in one place, but in several, which indicates the unexplored potential of the territory (3, 4, 5, 6, 7).
According to KB23 research, people who visit landscaped areas in a company are 2 times more willing to spend money on entertainment and services. In addition, visiting the park together with acquaintances increases average spending by 20%.
The main trade and service enterprises are concentrated in the central part of the city and are aimed at serving the daily needs of the citizens who live in Tarus permanently. There are a number of food establishments in the center aimed at tourists. Retail clusters are also present in the residential areas. Improving the mobility and accessibility of these clusters will increase the economic potential of retail facilities throughout the city.
Scheme reflecting the state of existing engineering infrastructure within the projected area boundaries

It is necessary to improve the existing infrastructure in Tarus (drainage system, lighting, waste storage system. roads, etc.).

Architectural concept of the Tourist routes “Walks along Tarusa”

The route “Walks around Tarusa” will allow you to plunge into the unique identity of the city

Today Tarusa is a place of cultural and tourist pilgrimage. The development of tourist routes will allow Tarusa to enter the “Golden Ring of Russia” route and become an international cultural center.

Preservation of the unique combination of natural capital, the established historical and urban environment and the atmosphere of creativity of the city of Tarusa will allow to develop tourist activity. This will increase the status of the city as a place of cultural and tourist pilgrimage. It will also help to identify and solve problems that hinder its harmonious development.

Organization of physical and meaningful connections between objects of historical and cultural heritage surrounded by amazing views and natural landscapes.

Tarusa will become a convenient city for both citizens and visitors.

The project reveals the unique combination of natural, historical and cultural riches of the territory, which is peculiar only to Tarusa.
