- Restoration and adaptation of the municipal building
- Installation of engineering systems to the building
- Improvement of the adjacent territory (repair of pavement, lighting, installation of an information sign)
Concept for the development of tourist routes “Walks along Tarusa”
Tarusa Masterplan
Tourist Information Center
Objects under development
- A lighted parking lot with a small information center, security point, kiosk and toilets will be organized
A dedicated automobile passage will be organized to separate pedestrian and automobile traffic. The arranged turning area will provide better access to the houses on Dekabristov Street.
To implement the tourist project, an information center is needed: a place where the path will start and where everyone will be able to find the necessary information. The center will also be a point of attraction for local residents, playing the role of a “community living room”. Film screenings, lectures, and meetings can be held here. In the backyard there is a bicycle rental center.
Entrance to the city. Eco-parking
The entrance to the city requires improvement, as it is the first thing a person sees when approaching Tarusa. It is important to organize a parking place for tourist buses and private vehicles in order to relieve the pressure on the historical center of the city. You can leave your car here and follow the signs to the beginning of the route.

Scheme of transport organization of the territory
Organization of a continuous route along the embankment
The waterfront is a place where people come together. A place where all routes descend, a place with amazing views. It should be improved in the first place.
Organization of wooden flooring
- Construction of wooden flooring on piles
- Installation of boulders to prevent cars from driving into the pedestrian zone
- Street is illuminated and improved
- Resting places are arranged at viewpoints (installation of benches, lanterns, urns)
Separation of pedestrian and automobile flows due to the expansion of Dekabristov Street. Development of the end point of the promenade along the embankment.
Organization of a pedestrian path bypassing the terrace of Café Oka
- The 250 m long path is paved with brick chips and limited by a curb tape
- Steps are built to prevent soil sliding
- Lamps-torches are installed
- Resting places are arranged at viewpoints (installation of benches, lanterns, urns)
The descent links the previously broken pedestrian path along the embankment into one continuous route. The cafe acquires a comfortable and cozy place to relax overlooking the river.
Improvement of the square near the stele
View of the monument to the Tarusians who fell in the battles for the Motherland in 1941-1945
- Dismantling of fences
- Leveling of the area between the monument and the stele
- Installation of a drainage system to prevent erosion of the bank
- Resting places are being built at viewpoints.
For continuity of routes, we propose to remove the fences restricting the memorial and thus connect the pedestrian breaks of the embankment. Separation of pedestrian and car flows to prevent cars from entering the main square. The descent to the river next to the Stela is closed to car traffic, thus preserving the unique landscape of the water protection zone.
Improvement of the territory near the “Sail” cafe
- The pedestrian zone is separated from the automobile zone by planting low shrubs
- A pedestrian sidewalk is being improved behind Cafe Parus on Dekabristov Street by cutting down spontaneous plantings and widening the road
- Possible further works - arrangement of a terraced slope in front of Cafe “Oka”.
Reorganization of Dekabristov Street profile with separation of transport and pedestrian zone:
Continuity of the pedestrian route along the embankment at the “Sail” cafe is restored by reorganizing the profile of Dekabristov Street with the separation of transport and pedestrian zone.
Gully improvement
Improvement at Marina Tsvetaeva's stone
- Construction of wooden pedestrian bridges
- Organization of paths, stairs, lighting
- Reinforcement of slopes with shrubbery
The organization of paths, stairs and bridges over ravines is proposed to create a coherent and comfortable pedestrian route.

In 2017, MARSH Labs and volunteers built a staircase from Borisov-Musatov's grave to the spring next to the stone; the next step is the arrangement of the spring, path and fences.

Steel, concrete blocks, plastic matte, focal point protector, solar panel
On the hillock next to the old burial mound a model of the settlement is installed. A small wooden mastaba, on which the model of the old settlement is almost vertically located, will tell about the historical settlement of Tarusa.
Triangular sign “Tarusa” on the site of the former settlement. Layout of the settlement
Stela made of glued wooden panel with illumination, USB-charging and solar panel. Text about the given place on a steel plate - engraving or etching. It is important that the design of the signs is uniform for the city.
