Almaty Millennium Square

competition 2015–2017. Almaty, Kazakhstan

Millennium Square is a square with a fountain in the form of Almaty map. It is decorated with copper plates, on which the thousand-year history of the city is engraved. The plates are located under a waterfall symbolizing the flow of time. The fountain operation modes allow creating various functional and visual scenarios for the surrounding space. At night, the city map is lit with thousands of lights illuminating crystalline water jets. On a hot day, the fountain spray nozzles generate water clouds. Besides, the fountain surface may serve as a stage for outdoor concerts, which can be watched from the amphitheaters, framing the square on both sides.
